While swimming (indoors) with our neighbors Caden busted his chin wide open which ended our fun night and sent us straight to the hospital.
Scott was playing a game with some of the kids at the other end of the pool and just as I happened to look in their direction, I saw Caden jumping off the edge directly into the corner. His chin came down on the lip of the pool really hard and it was LOUD. I thought for sure there would be mass amounts of blood, broken teeth and possibly more.
We were so lucky. No broken teeth and not too much blood. Lucky for us, our neighbor happens to be a doctor and after a quick check, told us we needed to take him in. I was a little confused since it didn't seem to be bleeding that much, but we trusted his advice. After getting to the hospital we were told the reason it wasn't bleeding that much was because he had broken through all of the layers of skin and the fat was starting to protrude out, blocking the blood flow. Nice. After lots of numbing and layers of stitches, Caden left the hospital proud that he was "brave like a Jedi".
After everyone was tucked into bed, I said many prayers of gratitude for a small mess that night and keeping my children safe. Of course my mind played out the many other scenarios that could have happened and all those fears I have worked so hard to dispel flooded my thoughts again. I did what I always do and said another quick prayer for peace and comfort and then climbed into bed with each of my children so I could cuddle them while they slept. There's something about watching them sleep, watching their chest rise and fall with each breath and memorizing their sweet little faces that fills my heart up with joy and pushes out the other crap that managed to sneak in.
I'm grateful for prayer. I'm grateful I can ask for silly things, like help with removing thoughts from my mind, and my prayer is heard and answered. I'm grateful for a Heavenly Father who knows me and loves me.
We took some videos of him while being stitched up, but this one cracked me up and I thought I would share. Scott felt horrible about the accident and blamed himself for not being more careful with the kids. As you can see, Caden wasn't making it any easier on him!

Calvin had to get stitches a few summers ago from a dog bite on his face. It was seriously traumatic! I did the same thing...playing all the different scenarios. I am impressed with how tuff Caden was! Calvin screamed the entire time he got stitched! It was horrible!
I'm so glad he's ok because yes, that could have been a lot worse! He is brave like a jedi! :)
probably the first of many stitches. my younger brother actually has the nickname "stitch" he got them so often.
glad everything is ok, and just a reminder that your kids are adorable. sure love you guys.
Sounds to me like this was ALL SCOTT'S FAULT and he owes Caden big time, I'm talking lots and lots of toys. Shameful Scott, I am really disappointed.
