Illustrator 101

Scott bought me two online Illustrator courses that I have been wanting to take for awhile. I am pathetically self taught (does that even make sense?) in the graphic design area and I get so frustrated when I know what I want to create and feel limited because of my knowledge. So, it was time to buckle down and commit to getting educated. This first course is a month long and I am happy to report I just completed my first week of lectures, readings, etc. and my homework was to design a typographic poster. Of course I turned to Etsy and found these alphabet posters all over the place. Here's my attempt at one...

I know, I know, it looks simple and easy, but I promise that it is not. This bad boy took me many hours.

Another one just for fun...

These are sized 16x20 (poster), so if anyone would like these prints for their child's room I'd be happy to send you the files to get printed at your local photo center (I think they cost around $6, at least at Costco that is what they are). You can also purchase a poster frame most places for cheap too.

I have a very strong love/hate relationship with that program. I love what it can do, just don't love the time it takes me to do it!! I haven't played with it for a while, but my FAVORITE college class was a design class (basically an Illustrator class). SO SO SO FUN!!! I LOVE your creation!! SO CUTE!!! Good luck and hope you enjoy the classes!!

Hi Tara--you probably don't remember me, I'm a friend of Marnee's and I found your blog by blog hopping the ones she has listed. Anyway, I would love a copy of this alphabet print for my kids play room and I would be happy to pay you for it. Let me know if you'd be willing to do that, you can email me at cmcolby fincomm <dot) net. Thanks!

I want to learn! I was good at photoshop back in high school and now I don't remember anything...I wish I did. I feel like you - I know what I want to create but I don't know how.
