Love Day

Sister's baby shower went great! I'll share photos as soon as I can get my hands on them.We decided to go with a "cowboy chic" theme since daddy-to-be is a little bit country (meaning he rides horses and ropes). When researching ideas for the shower I found a darling idea for an invitation on Etsy and "borrowed" it. That's permitted, right? It was for personal use only.

The decorations were fun and we served several soups, breads/rolls, salad and tons of cupcakes complete with cupcake toppers! I'm not usually a fan of cupcakes (I think box mixed ones are crap) but I may have been converted to the whole cupcake craze with a few homemade recipes we tried and loved. In fact, I love them so much I've been hesitant to share the recipe with those that have asked for fear they might become too popular and lose the "wow" factor. Selfish of me, I know.

Didn't I mention before that every time I leave town with the kids or Scott leaves us for a few days, one of my children get sick? Never fails. It happened again. On our drive to Vegas, Abbie was burning up with a fever. I tried to control if myself, alternating Tylenol/Motrin, but after 24 hours we had to rush her to the ER with a temp of 105.8. She just wanted to be held, no eating, barely drinking and no shenanigans. Definitely not my Abbie. It was scary. After poking, prodding, a catheter and chest x-rays the only thing they could see was bit of "thickening" in her bronchial tubes. We were discharged with meds and told to be patient. Not exactly what a mother wants to hear when her daughter needs to be held every hour of the day and night and she has a big shower to get ready for and running on barely any sleep. Luckily Scott joined us in Vegas and helped relieve much of my stress.

The important thing was that I was able to spend time with many of my family members and I needed that. I keep telling myself that for my next trip I am going for a whole week. A few days is never enough time to get everything done and see all the people that I miss.

We came back to Utah just in time to celebrate Valentine's Day and my 31st birthday. I was still exhausted from the crazy weekend before so I told Scott what I really wanted to do was make treats with the kids and doorbell ditch like we did when we were little. Caden and Abbie thought it was so fun to ring the doorbell and run and hide although they weren't quite successful at being sneaky. One of our neighbors caught Caden in the act and as we were driving away Caden kept yelling out of the window, "It wasn't me, it wasn't me"!

Mother in law insisted on taking the kids to McDonalds so Scott and I could have a nice dinner alone. There's not much to chose from here in Midway so we settled on a local Mexican joint and stuffed ourselves with chips, salsa and diet coke until we were both sick. We sat and talked for a long time after dinner and I had forgotten how nice it was to actually talk and not be interrupted by whines or temper tantrums. It was a quiet and simple night, but I wouldn't have done it any other way.
